Born in Adana, in 1969, Prof. Dr. Okan Toygar, MD completed his primary and secondary education in Tarsus. He graduated from Tarsus American High School in 1988. He graduated from the Ankara University Medical Faculty, which he entered the same year, in 1995. He began his specialty training in 1996 at the Marmara University Medical Faculty, Department of Ophthalmology and became an ophthalmologist in 2000 with his thesis titled "Results of eye screening in first-grade children in Üsküdar district".
After working in various hospitals in Istanbul until 2003, he started working at the Başkent University Adana Application and Research Hospital. Here, he gained experience in cataract surgery, medical retina, and vitreoretinal surgery. He received training in vitreoretinal surgery in Frankfurt and Bremen in 2006. He worked at the Adana Maya Eye Center, later named "NİV Eye Center", between 2008 and 2011, and at the Etiler World Eye Hospital between 2011 and 2012. In 2013, he began working as an "Assistant Associate Professor" at the Bahçeşehir University Medical Faculty, Department of Ophthalmology. He received his "FEBO" (Fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology) title in 2016, after the passing the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) exam in Paris, and his “Associate Professor” title in 2018. He continues his academic work as the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Bahçeşehir University.
Prof. Dr. Okan Toygar, MD increased his experience in the field of vitreoretinal surgery academically through a "research fellowship" at the Cincinnati University, Cincinnati Eye Institute, between 2014 and 2015. Prof. Dr. Okan Toygar, MD, who specializes in retina diseases and surgery (diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration- yellow spot disease-, retinal detachment), uveitis, cataract surgery and multifocal intraocular lens implantations, and glaucoma, serves at Altunizade - Istanbul Batigoz Medical Center.
